Morning arrival in Gorno-Altaisk. Meeting at the airport. Breakfast in a café (for extra charge.*) Transfer to Kamlak village. Accommodation at the Ethno-complex “Berendeevka village” in double wooden houses, with private facilities in it. Lunch in a café
After Lunch visiting a local Botanical garden. The garden staff will tell us about the unique flora of the Altai Republic. Kamlak is an amazing village where was formed an unusual microclimate of the Republic. On the territory of the botanical garden you can see all kinds of plants (about 2000 plants) growing in the Altai Republic.
Return to the hotel. In the evening you will have a master class on cheese making. You can make your own piece of cheese with fillings of your choice. Here everyone can become a creator of their own signature cheese. Next comes the tasting of delicious natural country milk, healthy whey and, of course, homemade cheese. After that, you will be awarded the “Cheesemaker’s Diploma”.
Dinner at the café.
After lunch, along upstream Katun river to the Che Chkysh tract. On the local language it means “narrow”, but local people call it the valley of the “ Mountain Spirits”. The gorge is hidden from prying eyes. Due to this arrangement, the gorge has repeatedly served as a shelter Altai tribes during internecine wars, in ancient times. The place is very beautiful- a mountain gorge surrounded by 150 meters of climb . The gorge is narrow, sometimes for about 15-20 meters in width. In the gorge flows clear mountain stream passing into the low ( 4 meters) waterfall. You can pass along waterfall because it falls a little bit far from the wall of the cliff. There is an ancient belief that those who pass along the waterfall get health and wealth because the stream has a magical power. Then we go to the hill to the observation platform, which offers a magnificent view over the valley of the river Katun. It feels incredible energy that gives lightness and lifting. This area is suitable for meditation and conduct ceremonies. You can simply enjoy the beautiful views and make some good photos.
Lunch at the restaurant “Klever”. After lunch, transfer to the Cheposh village – the start point of the rafting down the Katun river.
Preparing for the rafting. You will be taught the rules of rowing, you will be instructed on safety precautions on the rafting. Will be given out: life jackets, paddles, wetsuits and helmets.
During the rafting, you pass the rapids: Seminsky (3-2 grade) and a number of other water obstacles.
On the way, you take a walk to the spectacular 12-meter Kamyshlinsky waterfall. Return to the Ethno complex. Dinner.
Breakfast. Moving along the ancient trade route – Chuyski tract through its highest point Seminskii pass
(1739 m above the sea level) to ethno-park “Uch-Enmeck”.
After it we move to a valley of the Karakol river. Accommodation in tourist complex “Karakol” in double rooms. All the facilities are on the store. After check-in, a national lunch where you can taste the local cuisine.
Archi is cultured milk food which tastes like yogurt; Altai cheese Kurot; Talhan – specially processed wheat mixed with butter and honey in shape of balls.
After lunch excursion ” Secrets of the sacred valley”, during which you will get acquainted with the archaeological and astronomical structures of the valley of the Karakol river.
Whole groups of ancient Tumuli and a great number of rock carvings are situated here. People of the valley differ by its peculiar mentality and believe they are connected with the nature of this valley spiritually.
Late in the evening you will enjoy a folk program with throat singing and playing national musical instruments. This performance awakes deep personal background, helps to feel the spirit of Altai people, natural devotion, allows enjoy unsurpassed skills of musicians, some of whom are international festivals winners. (Master class on playing national instruments.) Dinner and overnight at tourist complex “Karakol”.
Departure to the head water of the Katun and Chyia river. On the way we pass Chike-Taman mountain pass (1295 masl). On the way, sightseeing of the most significant and spectacular places. Picnic- lunch outdoors.
Further afternoon inspection the rock paintings and petroglyphs at Kalbak-Tash Hole. More than 500 formations with more than 5 thousand pictures are drawn on the rocky flattened elevation, situated across the valley of Chuya River. All ancient pictures are made by point technique with stone or metal tools and date from the 8th century BC. Arrival to the tourist camp “Kochevnik”. Accommodation in double rooms with all the facilities. Dinner at the local café.
Excursion along Chuysky Trak in the Mongolian border direction. From a huge intermountain kettle of Kuraiskaya steppe you will be able to observe an amazing view of snow peaks of Severo-Ghuysky range with the highest points – Aktru-Bash (4075m), Karatash (3534m).
Great place for photo and video shooting of sunset over the snow-capped peaks of the mountains.
We continue our trip to the settlement Chagan-Uzun where we will visit the unique valley of the Kyzyl Chin river. Fantastic landscapes which remind Mars in the color. Because of a high content of mercury in the stones, they have various shades of red: from light-orange to dark- brown. The valley is located at the start of Chuya steppe, there is practically no vegetation here. The low hilly mountains with crevices create amazing landscapes. Picnic-lunch outdoors.
On the way back short hiking to the picturesque Geyser lake. The lake is the only one of its kind in the Altai – a rare beauty, clean, non-freezing even in winter, amazing turquoise color. On the mirror of the lake can be seen divorces rounds or ovals in shape, which is essentially a reflection of the processes taking place at the bottom of the lake. There, in the mysterious depths, from time to time come to life “geysers”, throwing on the surface of a mixture of bluish clay and sand that form visible concentric circles at the bottom.
Transfer to the camp site. Dinner and overnight at tourist camp.
After breakfast, arrival at the camp “Ezen” throughout the Tchulyshman River and Red Gates with an off-road trip.
On route observing Pazaryk burial mounds and some grave ruins. On the way we go down to the Katu Yaryk pass. This is a serpentine road carved into the rock. On the one hand – a slope, on the other – a break of several hundred meters height. Descent extent — 3,5 km on foot, luggage by car, altitude 1200 m. A magnificent view of the Chulyshman valley and a waterfall falling from a height of hundreds of meters opens from the pass. The Chulyshman Valley is one of the most beautiful places in Altai, included in the list of World Natural Heritage Sites.
Picnic-lunch. Accommodation in double cottages at the “Ezen” tourist camp. Facilities are on the territory. After dinner at camp, experience a traditional Russian banya.
Breakfast. Excursion to the Kurkure waterfall. The waterfall is located on the river of the same name, which flows into Chulyshman, on the opposite bank from the Ezen tourist camp.
Kurkure is translated from the Altai means “violent” and this is consistent with the nature of the waterfall. It has an incredible power, strength, and at the same time defenseless natural beauty. The waterfall is over 30 meters high. People living in nearby settlements consider it sacred. Therefore, they do not graze cattle around.
The hiking to the waterfall crossing the river takes about 3 – 4 hours. After the excursion, come back to the camp for lunch. Afternoon walk around the area, active outdoor games. Dinner. Russian banya .
Early breakfast. We will do a radial hike to a Karasu river ravine to see a unique natural object – “Stone Mushrooms”. “Stone Mushrooms” is a very interesting natural structure where rocky cones with rounded slabs on top rise above the slope of the valley. The base of the cone is rather soft sandstone, individual “mushrooms” rise above the slope by 10 or more meters.From the top of the hill you can see a beautiful view of the Chulyshman valley.
You need comfortable trekking shoes for the excursion. Picnic-lunch outdoors. Moving to the south of Lake Teletskoye to Cape Kyrsay. Ferry by boat to the opposite bank. Accommodation in the tourist camp «Altyn Tuu» in double wooden houses. Facilities are on the territory. Dinner. Russian banya (bath-house).
