This is a tour for true connoisseurs and protectors of our Nature. Altai is a charming country of blue lakes and snow-white mountain peaks. We invite you to make a trip to its innermost corners: to the Saylyugem and Yuzhno-Chuysky Ridges, to the most favorable areas for observing wild animals, to set trap cameras in the habitats of red-book animals. The main route runs along the border with Mongolia. The largest populations of Altai mountain sheep – argali and snow leopards live here. There are such species of animals as Pallas’s cat, corsac fox and marmot, among birds – steppe eagle, saker falcon, golden eagle, black vulture, Altai snowcock and bearded vulture. The highest points of the route reach 2500-3000 meters above sea level. The fans of outdoor activities will go to the heart of the Saylyugem cluster which is the habitat of the Altai mountain argali – the biggest representative of mufflons. At the confluence of the Bayan-Chagan, Karasu and Sarzhemata Rivers, a group of argali gathers in the summer, reaching 400 individuals. In addition, along the route you can see the traces of a rare bear of the Saylyugem population. When visiting the Saylyugemsky National Park and the spurs of the Yuzhno-Chuysky Ridge, you will experience all the beauty of pristine nature, silence of high-mountainous plateaus, depth of the blue sky above your head, as well as chime of crystal springs and rivers.

Tour Program
Day 1 – Chuysky Tract, Kalbak-Tash Rock Paintings
Tour distance on the day: 350 km – by car
Morning arrival at Gorno-Altaysk. Meeting at the airport. Breakfast in the cafe. We will move along the Chuysky Tract – the legendary road ranking among TOP-10 of the most beautiful roads in the world according to National Geographic. During the trip, we will overcome 2 passes: the highest point – the Seminsky Pass (1739 m above sea level) and the picturesque serpentine-type Chiket-Aman Pass (1295 m above sea level), see the ancient burial places of the Turks and the stone women guarding their peace. We will have dinner in the cafe on the way. In the afternoon, we will continue to go Mongolia. Behind the Kupchegen Village, the Chuysky Tract goes to the left bank of the Katun to the Kor-Kech Bom (bom is translated from Altaic as “disastrous crossing site”) – these are huge sandy pyramid-cliffs, the folds of which hang over the road. Then we will visit the place of power – the confluence of the Chuya River into the Katun River. On the way, there will be a stop at the Kalbak-Tash Area and an excursion to a large natural complex with rock paintings – petroglyphs. The flattened rocky hill, located across the valley of the Chuya River, contains over 500 compositions, numbering more than 5 thousand drawings. All of them were knocked out with stone or metal tools, mainly by a point-like method. Arrival at the Kochevnik Tourist Complex. Accommodation in the new building “Kozerog (Capricorn)”, in a double room with private facilities. Supper in the cafe.
Day 2 – Severo-Chuysky Ridge – Geyser Lake – Kyzyl-Chin Valley (Altai “Mars”)

After breakfast, we will move along the Chuysky Tract towards the Mongolian border. We will take a walk to the picturesque geyser lake outside the Aktash Village. This is the one-of-a-kind lake in Altai – rare in terms of beauty, clean, non-freezing even in winter, with an amazing turquoise color. You can see round or oval stains on the mirror of the lake, which in fact are only a reflection of the processes taking place at the bottom of the lake. There, in the mysterious depths of the lake, “geysers” revive from time to time, throwing a mixture of bluish clay and sand onto the surface, which form visible concentric circles at the bottom. In the village of Kuray, there is a magnificent view of the Chuya Alps of the Severo-Chuysky Ridge with the highest peaks – Aktru-Bash (4075 m) and Karatash (3534 m) – from the huge intermountain basin of the Kurayskaya Steppe. This is an excellent place for the photo and video shooting. We will continue our journey to Chagan-Uzun Settlement, where we will visit the unique valley of the Kyzyl-Chin River. There are unreal landscapes resembling Mars in their color. Due to the high content of mercury in the rocks, they have different shades of red color: from bright orange to dark brown. The valley is located at the beginning of the Chuya Steppe, there is practically no vegetation there. The mountains are low, hilly, with crevices. And all this creates amazing landscapes. Picnic dinner in nature. Transfer to Kosh-Agach Village and further – to the visit-center “Chagan-Burgazy” located at an altitude of 2100 m above sea level. The park offers its guests accommodation under comfortable conditions, which is very important in the harsh climate of the Saylyugem Ridge. The Saylyugemsky National Park is a specially protected natural area created in 2010. The main goal of the park is the preservation and reproduction of rare and endangered flora and fauna listed in the Red Book: snow leopard and Altai mountain sheep argali.
Day 3 – Eco-Tourist Excursion to the Valley of the Sarzhemata River
After breakfast we will go to the heart of the Saylyugem cluster – the habitat of the Altai mountain argali – the largest representative of sheep. On the route, we will go through mountain paths along which argali walk and watch them gracefully move along unvegetated, free-running slopes. Installation of a camera trap.
Departure from the Chagan-Burgazy area and the visit-center of the national park located at an altitude of 2100 m above sea level. The path lies through the valley of the Sarzhemata River. Like many rivers of the ridge, it has a wide floodplain and a rocky bed. It is not for nothing that these mountains are called “Sailyugem” or “a stone brook”. The lower left bank of the river is bordered by the southern slope of the Chernaya Mountain. The rocks combined with the bright lichens that cover the stones create a multi-colored mosaic of relief. You will see with your own eyes how argali live under the conditions of high mountains and a harsh climate, how they get food and hide from danger. And, of course, you will be able to photograph argali on the red-burgundy steep slopes, spotted with their network of trails. Return to the visit-center “Chagan-Burgazy”. Supper.
Day 4 – Eco-Tourist Excursion to the Sources of the Bayan-Chagan River
After breakfast we will visit the valley of the Bayan-Chagan River, which is undoubtedly one of the most attractive places for educational tourism in the Saylyugem cluster. The local landscapes are not only picturesque, but also allow making radial exits in different directions, including ascents to the surrounding peaks, reaching an altitude of almost 3500 m above sea level. You can observe argali here. You can look into the world of these artiodactyls, as well as other animals and birds found in the national park with the help of a telescope. The park inspector will tell you about the biology and behavior of the Altai mountain sheep.
You can travel here through the endless expanses of high-mountainous steppes and tundra which decorate the numerous rock ensembles – a kind of open-air museums of landscape architecture. These rocks create fantastic images of mysterious castles, stone figures of animals and sculptures of mountain spirits. The remnants are home to rare birds of prey: bearded vulture, saker falcon, golden eagle, black vulture. The alpine plant species paint with bright colors not only river valleys and rocks, but also dry stony soil of the steppes. Altai endemics grow here: Desert-Steppe Aster Rhinactinidia, Oxytropis komei, as well as rare species of plants from the Red Book – bright red rhodiola, Iris potaninii, Allium altaicum, Saussurea glacialis and others.
Return to the visit-center “Chagan-Burgazy”. Supper.
Day 5 – Tarkhatinsky Megalithic Complex, Argut River
Breakfast. Departure to the Chuysky Tract and further to Dzhazator Village. Dinner in the cafe in Kosh-Agach Village. On the way to Dzhazator, there will be an excursion to the Tarkhatinsky Megalithic Complex. This archaeological monument was an ancient observatory of the late Bronze Age – early Iron Age. The structure is oriented with high precision to the cardinal points. It consists of stone slabs laid in a circle with a diameter of 60 m. Some of them have rock paintings. Arrival at the visit-center “Dzhazator”. Accommodation in ails of the visit-center “Saylyugemsky”. Next, there is a trip to the Argut River, which starts at the confluence of the Dzhazator and Akalakha Rivers. Return to the visit-center. Supper.
Day 6 – Argut River. Karagemsky Breakthrough
Breakfast. Excursion to one of the most beautiful and grandiose places in Altai – along the valley of the Argut River. The convergence of three powerful mountain ridges: Severo-Chuysky, Katunsky and Yuzhno-Chuysky Ridges. Gradually, the road begins to climb up and, finally, you reach the top of a long pass (1551 m), from where there is a unique panorama of the Argut and Koksu Rivers, and the high-mountainous steppe Samakha. Descent from the pass along the serpentine road. The landscapes around you are transformed, while maintaining amazing harmony. There is a stop for photographing at the place where the Argut flows in a five-kilometer canyon called “Karagemsky Breakthrough”. Transfer to the bridge over the Karagem River. Picnic. Trekking to the place of petroglyphs. Return to the visit-center. Supper. You can see a wolf, a fox or an ibex on this day.
Day 7 – Return to the City
Tour distance on the day: 600 km – by car to Gorno-Altaysk
Breakfast. Return to Gorno-Altaysk. On the way, there will be a stop at the Arzhan-Suu Spring. The water in the spring is saturated with silver, copper and other mineral impurities therefore it is stored for a long time and, most importantly, has a beneficial effect on the improvement of metabolic processes in the body. There is a large souvenir market near the spring where you can buy maps, books, art objects and cedar products. Dinner in the cafe. Arrival at Gorno-Altaysk at about 21.00 p.m., accommodation at the hotel “Igman”. Self-serviced supper in the cafe*.
Day 8 – Transfer to the Airport

Утреннее прибытие Горно-Алтайск. Встреча в аэропорту.Завтрак в кафе. Переезд по Чуйскому тракту – легендарному пути входящему в ТОП-10 самых красивых дорог мира по версии National Geographic. В пути мы преодолеем 2 перевала: высшую точку – перевал Семинский (1793 м над у.м.) и живописный, серпантинного типа перевал Чикет-Аман (1295 м над у.м.), увидим древние захоронения тюрков, и охраняющие их покой каменные бабы. По пути обед в кафе. После обеда продолжаем путешествие в сторону Монголии, за селом Купчегень Чуйский тракт выходит на левый берег Катуни к бому Кор-Кечу (в переводе с алтайского «гибельная переправа») – это огромные песчаные пирамиды-утёсы, складками нависающие над дорогой. По пути мы остановимся в «месте силы» на слиянии рек Чуи в Катуни, совершим экскурсию в урочище Калбак-Таш, на крупный природный комплекс с наскальными рисунками – петроглифами. На скальной уплощенной возвышенности нанесено более 500 композиций, насчитывающих более 5 тысяч рисунков. Все они выбиты каменными или металлическими орудиями в основном точечной техникой. Прибытие на туркомплекс «Кочевник», расположенный на берегу реки Чуя. Размещение в новом корпусе «Козерог», в двухместных номерах с удобствами. Ужин в кафе.
После завтрака переезд по Чуйскому тракту в сторону монгольской границы. За селом Акташ совершаем пешеходную прогулку к живописному гейзерному озеру. Озеро единственное в своем роде на Алтае — редкое по красоте, чистое, незамерзающее даже зимой, удивительного бирюзового цвета. На зеркале озера можно заметить разводы округлой или овальной формы, которые по сути лишь отражение процессов, происходящих на дне озера. Там, в таинственной глубине, время от времени оживают «гейзеры», выбрасывая на поверхность смесь голубоватой глины и песка, которые формируют на дне видимые концентрические окружности. В селе Курай с огромной межгорной котловины Курайской степи открывается великолепный вид на белки Северо-Чуйского хребта с высочайшими пиками Актру-Баш (4075 м), Караташ (3534 м). Отличное место для фото и видео съёмки. Продолжаем путешествие до посёлка Чаган-Узун, где посещаем уникальную долину реки Кызыл-Чин. Нереальные ландшафты, напоминающие своим цветом Марс. Из-за большого содержания ртути в породах, они имеют различные оттенки красного: от ярко оранжевого до темно бурого. Долина находится в начале Чуйской степи, растительности тут практически нет. Горы невысокие, холмообразные, с расщелинами. И все это создает удивительные пейзажи. Обед-пикник на природе. Переезд в село Кош-Агач и далее до визит- центра «Чаган-Бургазы», расположенного на высоте 2100 м над у. м. Парк предлагает своим гостям размещение в комфортных условиях, что немаловажно в условиях сурового климата хребта Сайлюгем. Национальный парк «Сайлюгемский» – особо охраняемая природная территория, созданная в 2010 году. Основная цель парка – сохранение и воспроизводство редких и находящихся под угрозой исчезновения объектов животного и растительного мира, занесенных в Красную книгу: снежный барс, алтайский горный баран аргали.
После завтрака мы отправимся в сердце кластера «Сайлюгем», местообитание алтайского горного барана аргали – крупнейшего представителя архаров. На маршруте предстоит пройти горными тропами, по которым ходят аргали и наблюдать, как они грациозно передвигаются по лишенным растительности крутым сыпучим склонам. Установка фото-ловушки. Выезд с урочища Чаган-Бургазы и визит-центра национального парка, расположенного на высоте 2100 м над у. м. Путь лежит через долину реки Саржематы. Как и многие реки хребта, она имеет широкую пойму и каменистое русло. Недаром эти горы носят название «Сайлюгем», или «каменный ручей». Левый берег реки в нижнем течении окаймляет южный склон горы Черная. Горные породы в сочетании с яркими лишайниками, покрывающими камни, создают многоцветную мозаику рельефа. Воочию увидят, как архары живут в условиях высокогорья и сурового климата, как добывают пропитание и укрываются от опасности. И, конечно, смогут сфотографировать аргали на красно-бордовых крутых склонах, испещренных сетью их троп. Возвращение в визит центр «Чаган-Бургазы». Ужин.
После завтрака мы посетим долину реки Баян-Чаган, безусловно, одно из самых привлекательных для познавательного туризма место в кластере «Сайлюгем». Местные ландшафты не только живописны, но и позволяют совершать радиальные выходы в разных направлениях, в том числе, с восхождениями на окрестные вершины, достигающие высоты почти 3500 м над ур. моря. Здесь можно вести наблюдения за аргали. Заглянуть в мир этих парнокопытных, а также других зверей и птиц можно с помощью подзорной трубы, которые имеются в национальном парке. Инспектор парка расскажет о биологии и особенностях поведения алтайского горного барана. Здесь можно путешествовать по безбрежным просторам высокогорных степей и тундр, которые украшают многочисленные скальные ансамбли – своеобразные музеи ландшафтной архитектуры под открытым небом. Эти скалы создают фантастические образы таинственных замков, каменных фигур зверей и изваяний духов гор. Останцы служат домом редким хищным птицам: бородачу, соколу-балобану, беркуту, черному грифу. Высокогорные виды растений раскрашивают яркими красками и речные долины, и скалы, и сухую каменистую почву степей. Здесь произрастают эндемики Алтая: ринактинидия пустынно-степная, остролодка комейская, а также редкие краснокнижные виды растений – родиола ярко-красная, ирис Потанина, лук алтайский, горькуша ледниковая и другие. Возвращение в визит центр «Чаган-Бургазы». Ужин.
Завтрак. Выезд к Чуйскому тракту и далее в с Джазатор. Обед в кафе с. Кош-Агач. По пути в Джазатор экскурсия на Тархатинский мегалитический комплекс. Это археологический памятник являлся древней обсерваторией конца бронзового – начала железного века. Сооружение с высокой точностью ориентировано по сторонам света. Состоит из уложенных по кругу диаметром 60 м каменных глыб. Некоторые из них с наскальными рисунками. Прибытие в визит центр «Джазатор». Размещение в аилах визит-центра «Сайлюгемский». Далее поездка на реку Аргут, начинающуюся при слиянии рек Джазатор и Акалаха. Возвращение в визит центр. Ужин.
Завтрак. Экскурсия по одной из самых красивых и грандиозных мест Алтая – по долине реки Аргут. Место схождения трех мощных горных хребтов : Северо-Чуйского, Катунского, Южно-Чуйского. Постепенно дорога начинает подниматься вверх и, наконец, Вы достигаете вершины затяжного перевала (1551 м), откуда открывается неповторимая панорама рек Аргут и Коксу, высокогорной степи Самаха. Спуск с перевала – серпантинная дорога. Окружающие Вас пейзажи преображаются, сохраняя при этом удивительную гармонию. Остановка для фотографирования на месте, где Аргут течет в пятикилометровом каньоне , называемым «Карагемский прорыв». Переезд до моста через реку Карагем. Пикник. Пешая прогулка на место петроглифов. Возвращение в визит центр. Ужин. В этот день возможно увидеть волка, лису, козерога.
Завтрак. Возвращение в Горно-Алтайск. По пути остановка на роднике «Аржан-Суу». Вода в источнике насыщена серебром, медью и другими минеральными примесями, в связи, с чем долго хранится и, главное, благотворно влияет на улучшение обменных процессов в организме. Рядом с источником находится крупный базар с сувенирами, где можно приобрести карты, книги, предметы искусства, изделия из кедра. Обед в кафе. Прибытие в Горно-Алтайск около 21.00, размещение в гостинице «Игман». Самостоятельный ужин в кафе*.
